David Letterman's Restraining Order

Colleen Nestler, whose restraining order made headlines on major national news websites, had requested the restraining order last week, claiming the CBS "Late Show" host was using code words, gestures and eye expressions to convey his desire to marry her and train her as his co-host.

She asked that Letterman stay away
from her and not think about her.

She claimed the ordeal forced her into bankruptcy and caused mental cruelty and sleep deprivation for more than 10 years. Nestler accused Regis Philbin and Kelsey Grammer of also sending her codes.

Letterman's attorneys called Nestler's court action "frivolous" in seeking to have the order dismissed.

However, the restraining order had been dismissed due to a lack of jurisdiction, and several Santa Fe lawyers who were critical of the judge said they doubted the Judge even read Nestler's complaint before issuing the restraining order.

The same judge who granted the order, State District Judge Daniel Sanchez, quashed it, granting Letterman’s attorneys’ request.

Colleen Nestler still insists that David Letterman is after her, and even stated, that if he comes anywhere near, or sends any one of his "many accomplices", she will "break their legs".

Been a bit

Not that anyone's really reading this, but- you know- I thought I might take the opportunity to post a quick message I sent to one of my profs.

As background, you should know that this professor always talks about how he would just be satisfied if we make a connection between the "real world" and the material in his class. After typing this out, I figure I'm now guaranteed an A+ for sure..

---

You'll be pleased to know I've officially made a connection between the real world and your class. In writing a project proposal - just now - I came across a particular section where I wanted to write the following:

{{Performing a text-based query on the Overtone database is similar to other database lookups, except that this also searches for lyrics as the “content” of a particular song.}}

Then- suddenly- I came across the dilemma. Can I really describe lyrics as the "content" of a particular song? According to our recent discussion in class and the readings you've presented us with, it would probably be more prudent to point to lyrics as the message...initially.

But then I thought about it, and realized it could be interpreted more in a tree form; that is to say, the lyrics themselves might be more of the medium than anything else- the message might be more the concepts and ideas contained within the lyrics. That is, of course, assuming you even believe in the idea of message as medium, or vice versa.

Of course, this dropped me into trying to manually process the concept of a series of containers containing containers, where these concepts and ideas are contained within lyrics, which are contained within a given song, contained within a given medium (be it CD, vinyl, or otherwise)- all assuming you don't actually break down into the structure of the song and talk about chorus, verse, and other structures of the lyrics as containers themselves.

At this point, I realized my head was on upside-down and my eyes were starting to roll back in my head, realized I might be making the transition into a posthuman mode of thought, and snapped out of it.

Your class is making me lose my mind. Thanks, and see you Thursday!

Jon Stewart makes me giggle out loud.

Honestly. The man and his Daily Show are the perfect cap to my day, when I can catch it. A couple of nights ago, Stewart was pointing out how North Korea has suddenly rebuked on signing a nuclear disarm agreement Bush offered, in exchange for us to (basically) agree to not ever attack them.

A heavy issue, but one we all threw our hands up in the air with a look of sheer consternation comparable only to a case of severe diarhea when we heard they weren't going to sign. Well, most of us did, but the ones that missed it were too focused on the rise in gas prices. I swear, the world averages around $5 per gallon, and we hit $2 and everyone flipped out. Hilarious.

Anyway, I think Stewart summarized our reactions best, and the possibility that Kim Jong Il might actually have seen it was fantastic:

"I understand that Kim Jong Il enjoys western entertainment, so on the off chance that he may be watching this program, I would like to take a moment to address the Dear Leader:

Listen, f*head, you got the Bush Administration to promise not to attack you! Don't blow that! Mexico can't even get that! Every day, the Canadians check the map to make sure we didn't move the border on them overnight! We're badass, baby!"

Yeah... dunno about us being badass, but I thought it was awesome.

Michael Jackson, what have you done?

Okay, so this is kind of delayed, but I just had to share it. I'm sure everyone and their brother is familiar with the "issues" a one Mr. Michael Jackson has been encountering lately. Well, I happened across an article (on mtv.com, interestingly enough) that was about fans celebrating at the relieving of Michael's accusations.

I'm not sure if it was in the style of Google's ads that deliver a relevant ad based on the article content, but note that an ad for the Nintendo DS appears on the right-hand side, along with the cleverly-marketed slogan, "touching is good."

Aside from adding in the arrow to point out the slogan, I swear I have not photoshopped this in any manner. It's a straight-up funny coincidence.

The original article can be found here.

First Post

There's something exciting about having your first post to one of these things. At the same time, it simply means you're joining the ranks of tens of thousands of other morons out there who feel like the thoughts coming out of their head are useful enough to publish for the world to see. Well, I guess here's one more(on).

Sure, there are people who say that they're only doing it to keep their thoughts organized, and they like having a daily journal for their own personal therapy.. but let's be honest- if that was the case, you would be writing into the void of a Word document, carefully backing it up on CD-Rs each month. You want everyone to see it, otherwise you wouldn't have signed up.Of course, your blog won't be popular unless you break out of the mold.

Here are the basic categories I see everyone else's online life fitting into:
  • Oh man, I'm so bored right now, but my life isn't so mundane that it can't be shared.
  • I should totally be doing something else, but I need my blog fix. Also, I enjoy procrastinating.
  • Britney/Todd is such a mean/hot person. SSH, don't tell.
  • My reviews on music/movies/books are the best. I'm better than [popular critic].
Of course, there are more, but I think this covers the majority of them out there. My plans right now are to occasionally dabble in each/none of these, but as a general rule, I would like to avoid them. I mean, seriously, who wants to read about these things? Oh - right, see categories 1-4.

There it all is. Hello, world.
